Kohler's Pig by Michael Sowa
Michael Sowa is a German artist, born in 1945,
and is best known for his realistic yet creative images of animals.
He studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Berlin and then began
teaching before starting his career as a painter.
One of his most famous and beloved paintings is Kohler's
Pig, a painting of a diving pig airborne as he leaps into
a pond. In fact this image is so iconic it has been used for several
album covers and remains a popular print with art fans around the

As well as the beautiful Kohler's Pig, Michael Sowa also painted the wonderfully
whimsical and surreal "Pig In Soup". Though not quite as famous,
this painting remains popular with fans of all ages.
Michael Sowa also gained attention for his work in film and the magazine
world. In November of 2002 Sowa's art was featured on the cover of
the New Yorker Magazine. With its long and storied history, doing
a cover for the New Yorker is considered to be a great honor to many
in the art world. After gaining such widespread and commercial success
his work can also now be found on calendar, note cards, and a variety
of other commercial goods.
